About MEWA Medical Centre
MEWA Medical Centre (MMC) is a fully-fledged hospital, offering both in-patient and out-patient services, a General Ward, a Paediatric Ward, a Private Ward, a Maternity Ward, a Theatre, a Laboratory, an X-Ray and Scan department, a Pharmacy and CCC services. The MMC employs 94 staff including one full-time Residential Medical Officer, a Clinical Officer/ Anaesthetist, and a Hospital Matron.
The hospital’s operations are in the hands of a Chief Executive Officer and four Unit Managers, responsible for their respective service areas: Medical Services (MS), Human Resources (HR), Finance & Accounting (F&A) and Facilities Management & Office Services (FMOS).
MEWA Medical Centre is a project of the Muslim Education and Welfare Association (MEWA) is a registered charitable and non-governmental organisation operating in Mombasa. The hospital was established in 1995 from a humble beginning of just running the outpatient department. Over the years, the hospital has grown both in size and the magnitude of what it offers to the general public at large. This is a community-based hospital built on the basis of community contribution largely from the philanthropy of individuals, families and other Muslim communities and organisations. The hospital is managed on behalf of the Muslim Community and MEWA Executive Committee by the MEWA Medical Board of Management and is composed of eight Board Members.

Ambulance Services
MEWA Medical Centre operates a 24hrs ambulance service. There are two ambulances with one state-of-the-art ambulance which is the cheapest in Coast Province. It is designed to handle all cases and has a speed of up to 180kms/hr, for emergency cases.
It can carry two critical patients at the same time and accommodates patients at the most comfortable position.
It is air conditioned, fully equipped and has modern facilities such as a scoop stretcher, which is a perfect aid for drowning cases. Some of the other facilities are first aid materials, which can respond to any disaster,
mobile transport stretcher, foldable stretcher for upstairs cases, a rescue bag, an IV kit for resuscitation drugs, a suction machine, a digitial BP machine, a cardiac monitor, only to mention a few.

Comprehensive Care Centre
MEWA Medical Centre being a community based organisation has already established an integrated network in its catchment area to offer clinical care for people living with HIV/AIDS. This ensures that this group of people live their lives like any other person and also how to live longer and safer with the virus by giving them value that promotes positive living and enhance healthy behaviours.
Laboratory Services
Our Laboratory has attained the Human Quality Assessment Services (HuQAS) certificate in haematology, biochemistry, serology, parasitology and microbiology. It handles all cases in the above fields and all apparatus are sterilised at the hospital’s own autoclave machine. It is operated by highly qualified laboratory technicians and supervised by experienced laboratory technologists.
Dental Services
We offer very modernised dental services at the most affordable rates in town.
All dental services are given among them are :
- Painless removal of bad teeth,
- Filling teeth with holes,
- Replacement of missing teeth,
- Treatment of bleeding gums,
- Professional cleaning of teeth,
- Straightening crooked teeth in children,
- Teeth bleaching and permanent whitening of teeth,
- Minor oral surgeries.
Maternity Services
We have excellent maternity services with motherly nurses at the mothers’ service all the time. The services offered are antenatal clinic, normal delivery and caesarean delivery. We have nursery rooms full with incubators. For the love of our mothers, our charges for normal delivery are very pocked friendly though caesarean is unpredictable because of the doctors’ charges.
Patient Services
MEWA Medical Centre employs well qualified nurses, registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya, who make the wards a home away from home; they take patients’ comfort as their priority.
The hospital is has a Male and Female General Ward, a Private Ward, a Maternity Ward and a Paediatric Ward.
Pharmacy
MEWA Medical Centre has a fully stocked pharmacy with both branded and non-branded (or generic) drugs. It operates a 24hrs service. It is manned by well qualified pharmacy technologists, managed by a highly experienced Chief Pharmacist, registered with the Pharmacy and Poison Board of Kenya. It is one of the most pocket friendly hospital pharmacies in the Coast Province.
Radiology Services
The X-Ray Department at MEWA Medical Centre is of excellent standards and is fully equipped, including an ultra-sound scan machine.
All examinations concerning scull, spinal column, thorax, shoulder girdle, abdomen, pelvic girdle, upper and lower limbs, and special examinations such as barium meal are handled here with great skill and professionalism.
Theatre Services
The theatre at MEWA Medical Centre handles all major surgical cases and procedures, including gynaecological obstetrics and orthopedic procedures at zero percent risk of infection as all the apparatus are sterilised at the hospital’s own autoclave machine.
Cases of hydrocaephalus and spina bifida are done once a month as a referral either from the hospital’s own neurosurgical clinic or as a referral from other hospitals.
The theatre is well equipped and spacious so as not to frustrate both surgeon and doctor.
In Patient Charges
Admission Fees: A small fee is charge for admission to the wards
Hospital Fees:
Hospital fees include all bed and nursing charges, three meals daily, toiletries, and doctors’ observations
Doctors Fees:
When a consultant doctor is called to do an operation on a patient, it is charged separately from the hospital charges
Misceallaneous Charges:
Extra catering services, e.g. additional requests for mineral water, are charged separately
Out Patient Charges

A small consultation fee is charged for out patients
Laboratory:
Tests carried out at our Laboratory are charged at a higly competitive rate.
Pharmacy:
Drugs sold at our Pharmacy are at highly affordable rates
